How travel has made me/my life blissful! (Part I – by Katherine Meadows)

Hi Friends!

In keeping with my website’s tagline: Follow Your Bliss, I have started a new blog series on: “How travel has made me/my life blissful!” which features articles from my fellow blogger friends from around the world.

In the first part of my ongoing blog series, it gives me immense pleasure to present to you: Katherine Meadows, who lives in the beautiful province of Alberta, Canada. Katherine is a fellow travel blogger & travel enthusiast who runs the site Midlife Magic.  I must admit that I am absolutely amazed by her infectiously upbeat blog, which exudes a zest for life!!

Let us find out how Travel has made Katherine’s life blissful!:

As my name travel blog name might give away, I am a middle-aged woman with an unquenchable taste for adventure travel. I spend several weeks a year exploring as many places around the globe as I can!

But it wasn’t always this way…

For a long time I was someone who was stuck. Or maybe content is a better word. I lived within the confines of my own fears and insecurities and built a very ‘comfortable’ and happy life. It was a safe place, but often felt like so much of what I did in life was done out of fear rather than freedom. This ultimately left me a prisoner of myself. I knew my heart desired something more and I also knew I deserved more. Yet, those fears kept me from ever wandering too far out of my comfort zone.

I have always loved going on vacation. But it wasn’t until I took one giant leap of faith in January 2015, that I was finally able to let go of those fears and embrace the world around me, in an entirely new way. It was the day I booked my first trip overseas to Thailand. It was just me, my travel companion and a backpack- ready to take on the world!

This was more than just my first ‘adventure travel experience.’ My perception had changed. I was seeing the world through a different lens. I experienced this adventure as a traveler, rather than a tourist, for the first time in my life. The result – This is where I turned my love of ‘vacation’ into a passion for adventure travel. I have never looked back.

I found my bliss!!!

Maybe it wasn’t Thailand that ‘actually’ changed me, but it was everything that happened as a result of that trip. The power had shifted. The day I hit ‘send’ to book the flights, the day I finished planning our itinerary, the day I stepped off the plane… I felt something I had never felt before. For the first time, I wasn’t scared of the unknown, I was intrigued by it. I was ready for it.

Travel did this. Adventure travel to be exact. That, coupled with my ability to finally step out of my comfort zone and fears, left me with a new freedom, a new love and a new passion.

If that isn’t bliss, I don’t know what is!

When you do what you love, bliss comes naturally. I didn’t know this until I experienced it. Also, the irony to all of it is, when you do what you love, the happiness or ‘bliss’ you feel, carries over into every area of your life. My significant other, my grown kids and my closest friends noticed the difference in me right away.

Most importantly- I noticed the difference! I have passion in my life. I have less anxiety and I am far more adventurous than I ever used to be!!! I have been set free!

I hope I have inspired you to find your bliss. This is where the magic happens!

  1. Firstly- you do not look old enough to have grown children! Amazing! Secondly- and more importantly- I completely get what you mean about having passion in your life. Every time I travel again it’s reignited stronger than the time before. Keep adventuring Katherine!
